The Emeritus Programme allows a retired CSIR employee to retain his or her title as an honour. Retaining your title in this way is known as the emeritus status. The CSIR emeritus status will be awarded to distinguished CSIR retirees in science, engineering and technology (SET). These are individuals who have served the organisation for more than five years. The Emeritus Programme allows the CSIR to continue maintaining relevant stakeholder relations, continue with contract Research, Development & Innovation (RD&I) programmes that the retirees were involved in and\/or assist the CSIR in building critical capacity through the mentorship of junior employees.<\/span><\/p>\n The emeritus status will be automatically awarded to retired\/retiring CSIR chief and principal researchers, as well as senior SET management. Other employees, including retired employees at levels below will be considered on recommendation by the relevant Cluster Executive and approval by the relevant Divisional Group Executive.<\/span><\/p>\n The retirees afforded the emeritus status will be presented to the CSIR on an annual basis. In addition to the public award and inclusion in a published listing of emeriti of the CSIR, the CSIR will provide benefits such as access to CSIR campuses, Wi-Fi, CSIR Information Services (CSIRIS) resources, as well as office and laboratory space where applicable. The only expectation by the CSIR would be for the retiree to contribute to organisational growth through either the mentorship of employees, and\/or assisting with the delivery of the CSIR projects.
