Thank you, #TeamCSIR for a successful Presidential visit to CSIR

Dear Colleagues,

On Tuesday, 8 April 2025 we hosted Honourable President Cyril Ramaphosa, our Minister Honourable Prof Blade Nzimande, our Deputy Minister Honourable Nomalungelo Gina and the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation Ms Tsakane Shiviti at the CSIR. This was the first time that the President visited the CSIR to get a briefing on the work that we are doing to support industrial development and the creation of a capable state.

By all accounts the visit was a huge success. I would like to thank each one of you for your outstanding contribution to the success of this visit. #TeamCSIR really ensured that we put our best foot forward and the President was very impressed.

This historic visit showcased not only the remarkable work being done across the organisation but also the professionalism, commitment and unity of purpose that define #TeamCSIR. The visit provided an invaluable platform to demonstrate how our science, engineering, and innovation capabilities contribute meaningfully to South Africa’s developmental priorities.

I am also deeply grateful for the support of our Minister Prof Blade Nzimande; Deputy Minister Nomalungelo Gina; the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee Ms Tsakani Shiviti; and all the senior government officials who accompanied the President. Their presence highlighted the strategic importance of the CSIR and its role in supporting a capable and developmental state.

The success of this visit was no small feat – it was the result of tireless preparation, close collaboration, and an unwavering commitment to excellence by #TeamCSIR, our colleagues from the DSTI and the Presidency. Whether you were involved in research exhibitions, logistics, communications, security, hospitality, facilities management or any other aspect of the day, your contribution did not go unnoticed. You exemplified all our EPIC values.

The positive feedback we received from the Presidency and our government partners is clear evidence of what we can achieve when we work together with shared purpose. More importantly, this visit lays a strong foundation for the CSIR to build on – to strengthen our relationships with government, deepen our impact on society, and reaffirm our position as a trusted partner in innovation.
